Southern Illinois teams Captures EZGO - Mari de Villa Quad Pro Event at Norwood Hills
The team of Steve Heckel, Larry Emery, Brian Norman, and Chad Cooper, blistered the Norwood Hills West Course, with a score of 16 under par to capture the Gateway PGA's opening event of the year. The format featured groups playing a 2-man scramble on one nine and a best ball format on the other nine. Heckel, Emery, and Norman, all from Crab Orchard Golf Club in Carterville, IL, were joined by Cooper from Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion, IL. Course conditions were outstanding as the fast and smooth greens made for some great scoring. The runner up team finished 10 under par and consisted of Gary Fee, Bill Hall, David Furlong, and David Levine.
Matt Ruehling, the new Head Golf Professional at Panther Creek GC in Springfield, IL, aced the 193 yard 7th hole with a 5 iron, to add to the excitement of the day.
The Gateway PGA tournament season continues at Westborough Country Club on April 21, with the 36 hole Stableford Championship sponsored by Nike Golf. |
