Gaus and Emery Take Ashworth Arch Classic Titles to Extend Point Leads
Bob Gaus of Tower Tee GC, took a big step in winning the Gateway PGA's Player of the Year award by winning the Ashworth Arch Classic at Forest Hills CC. After finishing in the runner-up position in all three Majors in 2008, Gaus broke through on the demanding Forest Hills layout with 6 under par round of 96 in the 27 hole event. Mark Faulkner of Lake of Egypt CC in Marion, IL, finished 4 strokes behind Gaus and now trails him by 156 points in the season standings with only three tournaments remaining. Oak Brook GC pro, Mike Suhre, came home third with a round of 1 under par.
In the Senior Division, Larry Emery of Carterville, IL, finished at 3 under par 99 to edge Westwood CC's Daryl Hartig by 2 strokes. Host Forest Hills pro John Hayes and Bill Hall of Golf Galaxy shared the third place honors with even par round of 102. Emery holds a slim 13 point advantage over Scott Bess of Columbia, MO, in the Senior Division Player of the Year standings.
The Player of the Year points will now reset heading into the Inagural Midwest Golf Labs Playoff Series beginning next Monday at Tapawingo GC. The top 40 Gateway PGA Pros and top 30 Senior GPGA Pros will tee it up in the season ending playoff series which will conclude at Westwood CC on October 13th in the Gateway PGA's Midwest Golf Labs Players Championship. |
