Hayes Captures Anheuser-Busch Gateway PGA Senior Section Title
John Hayes of Forest Hills CC captured his first Gateway PGA Senior Section Championship at The Falls GC in O'Fallon, MO. Hayes followed up his opening round of 67 with a 5 under par 66. He carded 8 birdies and only 3 bogeys on the way to the championship. Hayes needed every stroke as Coumbia, MO, professional,
Scott Bess, fired a course record 63 in the final round to finsish the tournament. Bess had 4 birdies and 2 eagles, including an eagle on #18, on the 6510 yard layout to end up at 8 under par 134 to finish one stroke shy of Hayes. Larry Emery of Carterville, IL, and Dale Boggs of Creve Couer, MO, ended the event with 5 under par 137's to tie for third. Special thanks go to Anheuser-Busch for their support of the Gateway PGA. With the victory Hayes will move on the the PGA's National Sr. Championship in Palm Springs, CA, this fall. |
