Suhre, Phillips, and Malnati, share lead at Commerce Bank Missouri Open
The 2008 re-birth of the Missouri Open at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, MO, proved to be nothing but spectacular on the first round. Alan Phillips of Camdenton, MO, leads the Senior Professional Division after blistering the course with a round of 65. He is trailed by Columbia, MO, Pro Scott Bess (67), and Larry Emery (69) of Carterville, IL. The trio will tee off for the final round Saturday morning at 10:03.
In the Professional Division, Mike Suhre of Edwardsville, IL, finished with a 5-under par round of 67, to lead the pack towards the lions share of the $30,000 purse. PGA Tour veteran Jay Delsing (68), Mizzou Alum Shawn Jasper (68), and Britt Pavelonis (68) of Harrisburg, IL, are hot on Suhre's heels going for the $7000 first prize. The finals groups will tee it up at 1:12 pm on Saturday.
In the Amateur Divison, Mizzou senior Peter Malnati, showed he was no stranger Old Hawthorne's 7200 yard layout and he breezed to a 5-under par 67. He will be paired with Ben Godwin (70) of Poplar Bluff, and Tom "Toz" Barry (71) of Ferguson, MO. Others tied for third include Mizzou golfers Ryne Fisher, Dan Frost, and Jace Long, and St. Louis' Darren Lundgren, all who finished at 71.
The Missouri Open has been restored to life with the help of Commerce Bank and Old Hawthorne after a 13 year absence. |
